I decided to do everything from scratch this year—well, everything but the pie. I am not a baker and I love pumpkin pie too much to risk it turning out badly and then having no pie. That would be terrible.
Everything else that came out of my kitchen that day was made by hand, with lots of swearing and lots of wine by the time it was ready to be served. I spent three hours cooking to finish one plate and two pieces of pie in 15 minutes, and then took one of the best naps I’ve had in a long time. He watched football from morning til night.
And yes, I use Tupperware as serving dishes and paper towels as napkins. That’s the kind of people we are.
